of loving and breathing

what of food
that increases hunger
what of drink
that increases thirst

what of my love
for you that
neither satiates
nor quenches

leaves me
always feeling needy
always feeling greedy

my loving
is my breathing
how does one deny
their chest breath
who could say to their lungs
::i have given you a million breaths,
so be satisfied::
this one’s lungs would scream and burn
with urgent passion
until this miser would surrender
breathing once twice and forever more

my loving is my breathing
how can i deny my heart
your face
i could not say
::i have shown you her face a million times,
so be satisfied::
my heart would scream and burn
with urgent passion
until i would surrender
seeing her face
upon every horizon
upon every sea
upon every star
upon every space
upon every moment
once twice and forever more

I think my favorite from you thus far this month. You did this one so well. I like tha slight repetition and progression of this piece. I could easily call it “perfect”.

Your poems are like water to my thirsty soul. Somehow, meeting you (not quite) in person re-ignited the poet in me. You have given me a gift. May Allah reward you for being truly you. Ameen.
